KPD Blotter: Angry Man Scratches New BMW Parked in Two Spaces

In other cases, several burglaries were reported, including an oil change shop where a 2012 rental car was stolen.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of Jan. 12-22.

Jan. 12

  • Sometime between 2 p.m. and 3:38 a.m., a burglar forced open the door of an apartment in the 12200 block of 131st Place in the south Totem Lake area and took a laptop computer, Mexican passport and military ID and a Green Card. The victim was a 43-year-old man. Police found no suspect information.
  • A 38-year-old resident in the 11300 block of 112th Avenue in Juanita reported that between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. someone forced open his front door and stole a tablet computer. No suspects were identified.


Jan. 13

  • Sometime between Dec. 17 and Jan. 5, a birth certificate, U.S passport, marriage certificate, and bank and financial statements were stolen from the mail of a couple aged 41 and 42 who live in the 400 block of 18th Avenue in the Norkirk neighborhood. Police listed the crime as mail theft and identity theft.
  • A secondary lock, likely a dead bolt, thwarted the efforts of a burglar who tried unsucessfully to enter the rear door of a residence in the 12300 block of N.E. 130th Way near Evergreen Hospital. It happened between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

  • Two laptop computers, a Kindle reader, other computer equipment and jewelry were taken during a burglary between 1 p.m and 6:15 p.m at a north Rose Hill Residence in the 9100 block of 126th Avenue N.E. The victims were two women, 47 and 21 years old. There were no suspects identified.


Jan. 14

  • A $180 pair of Ugg boots were stolen from a 31-year-old Kirkland woman while she was doing hot yoga at a studio in the 12600 block of N.E. 85th Street on Rose Hill. It happened at about 11:30 a.m. There were no suspects identified.

  • A sympathetic female bartender allowed a 47-year-old homeless man, a bar regular, to stay at her house during the cold, snowy weather. She called for an aid car sometime after 9 p.m., however, because the man began having trouble breathing. He was taken to Evergreen Hospital but slipped away before seeing a doctor. Police found the man boarding a Metro bus, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant from King County. He was arrested and held until King County Police arrived to take him away.
  • A beauty salon in the 13500 block of 100th Avenue N.E. in north Juanita was burglarized overnight by a thief who pried open the front door and took about $200 worth of hair products, books with tax information and credit card receipts. No suspects were identified in the burglary, which was reported by a 40-year-old Redmond woman.


Jan. 19

  • A rental car, $200 cash and auto-testing equipment were stolen sometime overnight by a burglar or burglars who broke into an oil change shop on N.E. 124th in the Totem Lake area. The culprits pried open a back door, then broke off a lock on a garage door to steal the rental car, a 2012 Buick Lacrosse, which had been parked in a bay. The shop’s floor safe was apparently stolen as well. Police took photos and fingerprints, notified the rental car company and entered the vehicle numbers in the state/federal criminal information system.


Jan. 20

  • After parking her 2012 BMW X5 across two parking spaces at a business in the 12400 block of N.E. 85th on Rose Hill, a 46-year-old Kirkland woman reported that an angry man used a key to scratch her vehicle. The report did not specify, but it appears a 49-year-old Kenmore man who had been driving a 2003 Subaru was cited for malicious mischief. The report listed a witness, a 40-year-old Kirkland woman.


Jan. 22

  • A 34-year-old female resident of Lake Street South downtown reported that sometime between about 6 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. someone broke into the residence and stole $200 cash, three pairs of shoes and boots and a pair of jeans.
