When the Winter Wind Blows in Kirkland

I can hear all of you muttering about "SHE SHOULD GET A GENERATOR!" But that is giving in.

THIS LAND we live in it is a wet land for sure. It can be very hot (well, for us Kirklandites), it can be snowy, and we sure have our own special way to handle it. But the weather I really, really want to have a chat about is the dang wind.

I started to notice the wind when I was a tiny child in High Woodlands. It was a Saturday of soccer at 60 acres Park, and we heard we had lost power at our house. We scampered home and it was out. Us kids were beyond thrilled. The folks, not so much. I then had a year or so without any wind, and then on Thanksgiving Day the lovely power went out. And by out I mean out for 12 hours.

Us kids were so dancing around. We played flashlight tag in our cool neighborhood. Dinner time was getting closer, so I checked in with Dad to see what was what and oh my, he was thinking of using the BBQ. I was appalled. For one thing, he wasn't the BBQ master and it was getting dark. I was thinking the whole plan was sketchy. We ended up ordering pizza, thankfully.

Another power outage you all will remember, if you lived here in the 1993. It started quiet, or so I thought, and we lost power then for four days on Finn Hill. Sheeesh! I had a little toddler, so the whole event was lively. I can remember driving to look for an area that had power. All of you likely have memories of this weather occurance.

I just want to appeal to Puget Sound Energy and all the folks that scramble around to help us when the power goes. Please, please work on the trees that are about to snap and hit a transformer say in the summer, the spring, etc. I am a nag, but I am just saying. I have watched my pals go out year after year. It does seem like the same neighborhoods get hit every time a whisper of wind starts up.

Poor Juanita Drive folks and High Woodlands neighborhoods should all have a generator. I can be the cup-is-half-full girl, I usually am, but geeez I hate when the power goes. I hate arranging meals for these kids that have grown to giants. I hate the shower issus. Not to mention the bathroom generally! I hate how it seems to be about 25 degrees in the house.

I can hear all of you muttering, "She sould get a generator!" That is giving in. I think what I should do to find my zen during these times is make sure my gadgets are fully charged ahead of time and I can carry on!!

Happy Winter Kirkland!
