City celebrates transformation of Cross Kirkland Corridor at Oct. 27 Community Walk

If you’ve visited the Cross Kirkland Corridor lately, you’ve probably noticed that something is different.  Now that the salvage work is complete and the rails and ties are gone, the Kirkland City Council wants to celebrate the beginning of a new Corridor.  The Kirkland City Council invites the community to participate in a ribbon cutting and an interactive walk on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 1 p.m. on the Corridor at 108th Avenue Northeast, near the South Kirkland Park & Ride.  Following the ribbon cutting, city leaders and consulants on the Corridor Master Plan Team will lead a guided tour up to 6th Street South, just north of the Google Campus site.  Event parking is available at the South Kirkland Park and Ride, 10610 N.E. 38th Place, and a free shuttle will run until 4 p.m. between the end and start locations.  Participants are encouraged to complete the entire 5.75 mile Corridor and will be eligible to receive an original rail spike.  Event information is available at www.kirklandwa.gov/crosskirklandcorridor.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for walkers, joggers, and wide-tire bicyclists to experience the Corridor and learn about what the community is envisioning for the long-term development of the Corridor,” notes Mayor Joan McBride.  “The Corridor is an incredible community asset and we intend to develop it to meet the needs of the community and region.”

Information on the Cross Kirkland Corridor Master Plan, the Interim Trail and improvements proposed on the Corridor near the Google campus will be available at the event.  Light refreshments will be provided at the ribbon cutting.  Dress for weather as the event will occur rain or shine.
