City of Kirkland inducts Emmy Award winning meteorologist Chris Warren to Plaza of Champions at Nov. 30 ceremony

Chris Warren, current Weather Channel meteorologist will be inducted into the City of Kirkland’s “Plaza of Champions” on Saturday, November 30, at 2 p.m.  Warren received an Emmy Award in 2008 for on-camera talent in the weather category.  As a native Kirkland resident who attained the highest professional achievement, Warren was eligible to be nominated to the “Plaza of Champions.”  Kirkland Mayor Joan McBride will host the recognition ceremony and the unveiling of the bronze plaque bearing Warren’s name to be held at the Plaza, 25 Lakeshore Plaza Drive.

The “Plaza of Champions” Program was initiated in 1988 to honor and recognize a group or individual in Kirkland who has not only reached the pinnacle of achievement in their professional field, but has also, through that achievement, significantly contributed to the quality of life for the Kirkland community.  Warren’s years as a meteorologist on Northwest Cable News and King 5 TV reached viewers throughout Washington State and beyond.  In the same year he received the Emmy, Warren was hired by NBC to co-anchor a national prime time show at its Weather Channel station in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 2010, Warren was chosen to represent the United States in the World’s Fair in Shanghai, China.

Warren’s nomination was considered by the City’s Park Board which forwarded its recommendation to the City Council to induct Warren.  The City Council unanimously approved the recommendation.  Warren joins professional athletes, little league champions, and a U.S. Olympian, film maker, and a national beauty pageant winner.
