Community Future Day, April 26: Informative discussion, displays and spending priorities exercise

Since the “Kirkland 2035: Your Voice. Your Vision. Your Future.” campaign was launched over one year ago, hundreds of residents, business representatives, and community members have engaged in helping to shape the future of Kirkland.  On April 26, the city is hosting Community Future Day to present the draft master plans for the Cross Kirkland Corridor, Transportation, Surface Water Utility and Parks, Recreation and Open Space including a possible new recreation and aquatic center and to have participants help prioritize future projects.  An informative session will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on how Transportation Planning looks at growth and density.  Information on the Comprehensive Plan Update, including the Environmental Impact Statement process will be available. City staff and consultants will be available to answer questions about the Juanita Drive Corridor Study, NE 85th Street Corridor Improvements, Cross Kirkland Corridor Interim Trail and enhancements to Park Lane.  Community Future Day will be held at Kirkland City Hall, 123 Fifth Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Event information is posted at www.kirklandwa.gov/kirkland2035.

Community Future Day is the third in a series of community-wide involvement events held to receive input on various long-range plans.  At the two Planning Days held in 2013, citizens learned about the development of new plans and the update to existing plans and provided input on what visions, goals, and objectives the plans should include.  At the April 26 event, participants will see how community feedback was integrated into the plans and can allocate “Kirkland bucks” toward their preferred projects and level of investment.

As part of its annual education series called Neighborhood University (“Neighborhood U”), the Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods is sponsoring an informative discussion on traffic impacts facing Kirkland today and how the City is addressing them in compliance with the Growth Management Act.
