Get your “Viva” on at free Volunteer Fair, April 5

More than 20 human services, environmental stewardship and pet adoption agencies will be participating in the second annual Viva Volunteers Fair to help you find the right volunteer opportunity.  The free event will be held on Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Ave.  In addition to the exhibitors, educational and interactive sessions will be held throughout the day including identity theft prevention, health screenings, emergency preparedness and healthy eating.  Participants can also learn about online genealogy, ways to prevent chronic disease, and how to get started on Medicare.  The day even includes a demo on Zumba Gold ®, a Latin-style dance for active older adults.  Event information, including a schedule of activities, can be found at www.kirklandwa.gov (Search: Viva Volunteers).

 

Kirkland Deputy Mayor Penny Sweet will kick off the event which will be emceed by David Clemmons and Barbara Flagg, members of the Kirkland Senior Council (KSC).  The KSC acts in an advisory capacity to the Kirkland City Council on matters affecting citizens age 50 and older and promotes community efforts to maintain and improve the well-being of older adults.
