Input wanted on proposed sites and uses for possible pool in Kirkland to replace Juanita High School pool at Feb. 25 & 26 public meetings

Since September 2013, the City of Kirkland has been evaluating possible alternative sites to replace the pool at Juanita High School.  The Juanita High School pool, also known as the Juanita Aquatic Center, has been deemed by the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) as nearing its useful life. In January 2014, the City Council approved further study of Juanita Beach Park (north side), North Kirkland Community Center and South Norway Hill Park.  Public input on these sites is wanted at two public meetings to be held on February 25 and 26 at 7 p.m.  The first meeting will be held at Kamiakin Middle School, Cafeteria, 14111 132nd Avenue NE; the second meeting will be held at the North Kirkland Community Center, Community Room, 12421 103rd Avenue NE.  An overview of the preliminary siting process, including the evaluation criteria, will be presented.

The Kirkland City Council and LWSD Board of Directors adopted resolutions last fall affirming their commitment to seek partnerships to explore options to find a replacement facility for the Juanita Aquatic Center.

Input gathered at the February public meetings will be shared with the City’s Park Board at its March 19 meeting.  The Park Board will forward its recommendation to the City Council by April 1.  In addition to the public meetings, the City will conduct a random telephone survey of Kirkland residents.
