Why compost in the fall? Most people don’t know it, but fall is just the right time to be working in the garden. Plants need a boost of nutrients before they settle in for a long, hard winter, and thrive when given a layer of compost in their beds. Compost also slows stormwater pollution, which peaks in the fall, when the rains come in. So brave the rain—and spread some free locally-produced compost. Then tuck in, eat some pizza and watch some football.
