21 Acres' New Kiosk Monitors Solar Energy Production

is boasting a new device on display at its educational building that monitors the on-site solar energy generated at the sustainable living center in the Sammamish Valley at Woodinville.

The new LCD kiosk also shows the building’s energy efficient technologies, including insulated block building shell construction, ground source heat pump, radiant slab heating and natural ventilation system preheated through a large earth berm on the buildings south side. Whenever the educaiton center is open, the public can go in and see how well the building is doing in solar energy production.

Funded through a grant from Puget Sound Energy, the kiosk is a cooperative project between 21 Acres, PSE and Cascadia Community College in Bothell. Cascadia students from the school’s Energy Informatics course designed the kiosk screen showing energy usage and solar generation.

The PSE grant also supports classroom materials for renewable energy education and web-based monitoring software that allows students and interested community members to track how much energy is being generated as the weather changes.
