Bellevue Girl Receives Star Treatment from Make-A-Wish

Brooke, 12, who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, enjoys a special day at Macy's.

A 12-year-old Bellevue girl got the star treatment Friday in honor of the fourth annual Make-A-Wish National Believe Day, sponsored by Macy’s.

Brooke, whose last name was withheld to protect her family's privacy, has Hodgkin’s disease. She wished to take her family on vacation to Spa Atlantis in the Bahamas. As a complement to the trip, Make-A-Wish Washington gave Brooke a hero’s treatment Friday. She arrived at Macy’s Bellevue Square store by police escort, complete with a motorcade. Once inside, Brooke was guided through the front doors by the Bellevue Police Honor Guard as friends, family and well-wishers awaited her arrival.

Brooke was joined by friends and family to deposit their letters to Santa in the “Believe” mailbox. Onlookers and supporters also wrote their letters to Santa, and policemen and firefighters were on hand to collect the letters.

After receiving a few gifts from Macy's, Brooke and her group were then led upstairs for a mini-spa treatment, where they received makeovers.

“This was a great enhancement for her wish,” said Lynh Nguyen of Make-A-Wish Washington, who coordinated the event. “It also was a chance for us to thank the Bellevue Police and Bellevue Fire Departments. We’re honoring all local heroes.”

Nguyen said Brooke’s doctors gave her the go-ahead to travel, so the family will fly to Spa Atlantis in April.

For every letter mailed through the Believe program, Macy’s will donate $1, up to $1 million, to Make-A-Wish. Macy’s doubled the donation on National Believe Day by contributing an additional $1 to Make-A-Wish. For more information about Macy’s “Believe” campaign, visit macys.com/believe.
