Deployed Mom Surprises Daughter with Emotional Homecoming at Puyallup Run

A local teen got a wonderful surprise after she crossed the finish line of the Pierce County No Sun Fun Run: her mother, home from war.

To Kelsie Dickson, the day started out no different than any other—she was just one of the pack, participating in the No Sun Fun Run on Jan. 19 along the Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail in South Hill.

But on that day, she got a special gift that made that foggy day a whole lot brighter: her mother, home from a deployment in Afghanistan.

Dickson has been staying with a guardian while her mother was deployed and everyone wanted to surprise her after she passed the finish line, said Andrea Clay, recreation supervisor for Pierce County Parks and Recreation.

“This is our fourth deployment as a family… and this was our way of ending our year with (Kelsie), to surprise her and show her how much we love her,” said Kristin Larson, Dickson’s guardian.

In the end, the smiles and joy in this film capture it all. Thanks for sharing, PC-TV!

Hopelink's actions mandating Section 8 housing went too far. Sorry, you are off our list ofRead More organizations to support even though the support before was robust. City council listened to organized carpetbaggers and not the citizens they are sworn to represent. All that can be replaced need to go at the next election Hopelink needs to find folks to contribute who have not been done wrong by this organization.
