Fighting Cancer: Relay for Life Saturday-Sunday at Juanita High

Join survivors, their families and supporters for games and activities at the Relay for Life at Juanita High starting Saturday at noon.

Survivors, their families and supporters from around the area will gather Saturday and Sunday at Juanita High School for the annual Relay for Life to raise money and awareness about for the fight against cancer - and they’d love your company.

The opening ceremony on the Juanita High football field/track starts at noon Saturday, followed by a Survivors’ Lap at 12:30.

Some 49 teams and 3838 participants are currently registered, and so far have raised $51,600. Event chair and cancer survivor Dorie Ross of Renton expects more than 500 by Saturday and hopes to beat her own goal of $75,000 dollars raised.

Proceeds support the American Cancer Society.

Teams will camp out on the field Saturday night, and team members will take turns walking laps. But the two days of the event are filled with games and activities. They include flag football, a ring toss, hula hoop contest, three-legged race, tug-of-war, Zumba class, face-painting, cheers camp, improv by the Juanita High drama team and a Luminaria Walk (10 p.m. Saturday).

The community is welcome to all events. If your life has been touched by cancer in any way, or not, the relay is a great way to make a contribution to the fight against it.

Juanita High is at 10601 NE 132nd Street in Kirkland. To find out more about Relay for Life Juanita, click here.
