Mi Mexico Opens in Downtown Kirkland

Healthy fare emphasized at "family Mexican restaurant" on Park Lane.

Downtown Kirkland gained another Mexican restaurant last week, when Mi Mexico opened its doors at 115 Park Lane. Although Jalisco's used to occupy the spot, Mi Mexico has different owners.

Co-owner Jose Angel made the point that the food at Mi Mexico focuses on healthier eating than the former Jalisco’s.

“We have better vegetables, more salads, better oils,” says Angel.

Billed as a “family Mexican restaurant,” Mi Mexico’s menu contains many of the usual suspects, including burritos, enchiladas, meat and chicken dishes and a rather large seafood selection. Prices range from about $10 for a burrito to $15 for a chicken dish. Combination plates are available in the $11 range.

The brightly painted, multi-colored chairs sport sun faces and other carvings, setting it apart from the other Mexican restaurants in town.

Angel points out that the food at Mi Mexico is authentic Mexican food that regular Mexicans eat. “The food at Cactus and Milagro is like Mexican resort food,” he says.

Mi Mexico is looking to attract the lunch crowd with daily lunch specials for about $8. “Healthier Choices” include a Mucho Flaco Burrito with beans and vegetables, the Veggie Enchilada stuffed with mushrooms, carrots, peas and corn, and the Whole Black Bean Soup finished with vegetables and a low-fat cheese.

Mi Mexico looks like a great place to take the kids for family-oriented dining. Mi Mexico's phone number is 425-822-3355. No website was found.
