Ship Ahoy! ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Sails to Kirkland

The Lady Washington, known to movie buffs as the HMS Interceptor, is one of two tall ships that will dock at Carillon Point.

If you’ve dreamed of high-seas pirate adventure, perhaps without the high seas, you can get a taste of it later this month when two historic ships dock at Kirkland’s Carillon Point, including one hijacked by Capt. Jack Sparrow of Disney fame.

The Lady Washington, the state’s official ship, may be better known as the HMS Interceptor from the 2003 Disney film “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”

In the movie, Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, steals the Interceptor with the help of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).

The vessel is a full-scale reproduction of the original Lady Washington, the first American vessel to reach the West Coast in 1788.

Joining her at Carillon Point from Aug. 27-Sept. 2 is the Hawaiian Chieftain, a replica of a typical European merchant trader.

Dockside tours and ticketed sails are available during the tall ships’ visit. Reservations for the dockside public tours are not necessary. The ships accommodate 60-100 visitors an hour and tours last about 30 minutes. Visitors will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. A $3 per person donation for the walk-on tours is appreciated. There are two ticket websites for the sails (details below).
