Stretch of Sammamish River Trail to Close Aug. 13-17 in Bothell

A detour around the closure will be in place while King County crews replace about 700 feet of asphalt trail surface badly damaged by growing tree roots.

An approximately 700-foot section in Bothell of the popular Sammamish River Trail will be closed Aug. 13-17 so King County crews can repair a surface heavily damaged by growing tree roots.

The 10.9-mile trail, a former railroad line, stretches from its connection to the Burke-Gilman Trail in Bothell to Marymoor Park in Redmond. It is one of the most popular in the county’s regional trails system (click here for a map), heavily used by walkers, runners, and bicyclists, and follows virtually the entire length of the Sammamish River between lakes Washington and Sammamish.

A detour will be in place around the section being repaired, from 102nd Avenue NE to where the trail crosses the Sammamish River at the NE 175th.

Eastbound trail users will be detoured at the “Chicken Lot” parking area west of the trail’s intersection with 102nd Avenue NE -- a spot frequented by neighborhood chickens, as regular trail users know -- then turn south onto 102nd Avenue Northeast. From there it will head southeast onto East Riverside Drive, then east onto NE 175th Street and rejoining the via a driveway near the trail bridge. Westbound trail users would take this detour in reverse.

The $47,000 repair job will require removal of the old trail asphalt, selective removal of roots, installation of a root barrier and then resurfacing, said Doug Williams, King County Parks spokesman.

It’s an older chunk of that trail that has gotten worn and damaged by erupted tree roots,” he said. ‘Fortunately the detour is pretty straightforward.”

Hopelink's actions mandating Section 8 housing went too far. Sorry, you are off our list ofRead More organizations to support even though the support before was robust. City council listened to organized carpetbaggers and not the citizens they are sworn to represent. All that can be replaced need to go at the next election Hopelink needs to find folks to contribute who have not been done wrong by this organization.
