Weather Service Issues Special Statement Calling for Heavy Rain and Wind

The National Weather Service says more than two inches of rain is likely to fall beginning Sunday, creating landslide conditions.

 

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Puget lowlands advising of a series of Pacific weather system beginning Sunday night that is likely to bring more than two inches of rain and moderate winds.

Two to five inches of rainfall is likely in the mountains below the snow level, and landslides are possible in the lowlands, it said. The forecast for Edmonds, Shoreline and Eastside cities calls winds of 13-26 mph Sunday night and Monday.

A high wind warning has also been issued for the Washington Coast, with gusts to 60 mph.

...AN ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THIS WEEK...

A SERIES OF WET PACIFIC FRONTAL SYSTEMS WILL MOVE THROUGH WESTERN
WASHINGTON IN QUICK SUCCESSION. THE TWO STRONGEST FRONTS IN THE
SERIES WILL AFFECT WESTERN WASHINGTON TODAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT.

TWO TO FIVE INCHES OF ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL FALL IN THE MOUNTAINS
BELOW THE SNOW LEVEL THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY. LANDSLIDES
ARE POSSIBLE AS UP TO 2.5 INCHES OF RAIN WILL FALL IN THE
LOWLANDS WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS GENERALLY AT THE COAST AND IN
THE INTERIOR FROM AROUND EVERETT SOUTHWARD.

WET AND LOCALLY WINDY WEATHER WILL CONTINUE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY WITH MORE SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. SNOW LEVELS ARE FORECAST NEAR PASS LEVELS. A BRIEF LULL IN THE WEATHER IS POSSIBLE THANKSGIVING DAY AND FRIDAY...BEFORE ANOTHER WET SYSTEM ARRIVES THIS WEEKEND.
