GALLERY: Wednesday Market Opens in a Splash of Color

Rain fails to extinguish the enthusiasm at the market, which opened its 2011 season with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The market will be open every Wednesday through Sept. 28 on Park Lane downtown.

Kirkland's 11th Wednesday Market opened in a downpour on Park Lane Wednesday, but the rain failed to darken colorful booths of flowers, produce, baked goods, honey, salmon, arts and crafts.

"Welcome everybody to the 11th Kirkland Wednesday Market," said Mayor Joan McBride during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We forgot to bring the sun, but it will be here for the rest of the markets.

"This is the best possible way to get great nutrition for your family and support our rural farms."
