WEEKEND PLANNER: Bridle Trails Park Party, Quilt Shop Hop, Strawberry Fest and More

Check out our picks for fun events and activities to take in this weekend.

Here it is, already Thursday and you're just sitting there wondering, what will I do this weekend? Well, Kirkland Patch is here for you -- check out these options.

Bridle Trails Party in the Park

  • Where/When: Saturday, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Horse Show Grounds, NE 53rd and 116th Ave NE, Kirkland.
  • Why Go: This is a great family event with all kinds of fun, including pony rides, nature walks, a 5k and 10k run/walk, pancake breakfast and great entertainment. This includes a donkey dash, miniature horses, equestrian drill teams, dog agility demonstrations and yes, the Valentine's Performing Pigs! Plus this event benefits the Bridle Trails Park Foundation, which pays for much of the maintenance at the popular 480-acre state park. Free shuttle bus every 10 minutes from the nearby Houghton Park and Ride.
  • Pricing: The run/walk is $20/$30 day of; pancake breakfast is $5; suggested donation of $5 for pony rides. The rest is free, but donations are gladly accepted.

  • Where/When: , 3-7 p.m.
  • Why Go: This week at the kids craft booth: Big Trucks! Live music will be provided by Jillian Graham (3-5 p.m.) and Ivan Lee (5-7 p.m.). And of course you can browses the usual assortment of fruits and vegetables, flowers, arts and craft and prepared foods booths.
  • Pricing: Admission is free.

  • Where/When: Thursday through Sunday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at , 14450 Woodinville-Redmond Road NE, Woodinville.
  • Why Go: This annual event is one of the most popular among quilters. Fabrics have been designed exclusively for the Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop by In The Beginning Fabrics and Clothworks.  Participating shops provide one piece of the Shop Hop theme fabric from In The Beginning, one piece of a coordinate fabric from Clothworks, and one fabric of shop’s choosing. As you travel on the shop hop, have your passport stamped at each shop and receive a kit for a quilt block that will include the block pattern created by the individual shop, as well as the three fabrics. To be eligible for prizes, turn in a passport stamped by at least 16 shops in Western Washington by Sunday at 5 p.m.  You must be 21 years old to be eligible for prizes.

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at  in Bellevue
  • Why Go: In the mood for a good old-fashioned summer festival? The Bellevue Strawberry Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this weekend with two days of food, vendors and family activities. The festival is also an official Seattle Seafair event this year, and a hydroplane will be on display to mark the partnership.
  • Pricing: Free.

Redmond Town Center Sidewalk Sale & Arts Festival

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 
  • Why Go: This weekend will be the perfect time to hit up the Redmond Town Center, as the outdoor shopping center will host a sidewalk sale featuring Eddie Bauer, Macy's, REI and nearly 50 of its other retailers. But local arts and crafts vendors will also be a major draw, with more than 60 separate entities selling their wares. Food stands and live entertainment are sure to make the event a hit with non-shoppers as well.
  • Pricing: Admission is free.
