Studio East Announces Dates for 'Thoroughly Modern Millie,' 'Godspell'

KIRKLAND, WA – Dozens of Eastside teens 11 through 18 are putting on their dancing shoes for 's prodution of the Tony award-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie July 27-29, 2012. And just two weeks later a new group of teens 10 through 14 will present the Tony- nominated Godspell.

Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz – a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. Based on the 1967 film starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore (which was nominated for seven Academy Awards) this opened on Broadway in 2002 and consequently won six Tony Awards including the Tony Award for Best Musical.

There are four performances of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the July 27-29, 2012. Showtimes are July 27 & 28 at 7:30 pm and July 28 and 29 at 2:30 pm. It is recommended for ages 8 and up. Godspell is the beloved classic based on a series of parables from The Gospels. It has a Tony-nominated score that includes Day By Day, Learn Your Lessons Well and Turn Back, O Man. It is one of the first musicals from Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of Wicked and Pippin.

This timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love has touched the hearts of countless theatergoers for over four decades.   There are four performances of GODSPELL at Studio East August 10-12, 2012. Showtimes are August 10 & 11 at 7:30 pm and August 11 and 12 at 2:30 pm. It is recommended for ages 9 and up.
