Studio East Searching for a Toto or Two

Theater group needs two dogs to cast in its summer production of The Wizard of Oz.

Kirkland’s is sniffing around for suitable pooches to cast as Toto when it unleashes its summer production of The Wizard of Oz.

Open auditions will be conducted Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., for two dogs to act as Toto in the show, which will be staged at the on the weekends of July 29 and Aug. 5.

The chosen hounds will receive billing in the show program, as well as a professional headshot. The owners/handlers will receive a Wizard of Oz tee-shirt, billing in the show program, a cast photo, invitation to the cast party and six free tickets.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome to audition, and there will be fun activities for family members as well. A registration fee ($20 for advanced registration, $30 day of the event) will be charged for each dog, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Seattle Humane Society.

Dog requirements to audition for Toto:

  • Less than 18 pounds.
  • Able to follow hand signals (not voice) by the handler offstage or actor on stage to sit, stay, come, run across stage.
  • Willing to be carried in a basket.
  • Not be frightened or distracted by live music, audience responses and clapping, or actors moving on stage.
  • Available to perform in four performances and in rehearsals for five nights prior to opening night.
