VIEWFINDER: 'Tree Socks' Sprout at Redmond's Anderson Park

The colorful art installation is part of an ongoing series of fiber arts displays and events.

Some of the trees at Redmond's historic Anderson Park are looking a bit more vibrant these days, thanks to a new art fiber exhibition by Seattle artist Suzanne Tidwell.

"Artificial Light" is an ongoing exhibition that began outside Redmond City Hall last December and is continuing this year at Anderson Park downtown. Tidwell is known regionally for "yarn bombing" trees, poles and other public objects with her artwork.

The Anderson Park "tree socks" will remain until June 3, according to the Experience Redmond website. During that time, a handful of community events will be held to introduce the public to the project and fiber arts in general.

A kickoff event for the exhibition will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 8 at Flying Apron Café in Redmond as part of the Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce's regular Business After Hours networking event.

On March 10 and 17, organizers will host a community "knit in" to give members of the public a chance to create their own pieces of fiber art.
