WEEKEND PLANNER: Dog Park Opening, Christine Sharp Art Exhibit, Cotton Hill Work Party

Check out these ideas for cool things to do in and around Kirkland.

Sure you have our own ideas for what to do this weekend, you've been working and thinking about it all week. But you can't sit on a bar stool or your couch in front of the tube all weekend now can you? So here are some fun ideas for when you do decide to get up and moving!

  • Where/When: 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, 3 p.m. on Sunday at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: Join Studio East this weekend for the opening of their newest production, Little Women. This timeless story has been brought to life as an exhilarating musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart. Enjoy the show!
  • Cost: Adults $14; Youth (under 21) and Seniors (65+) $12; Service fees may apply.
  • Where/When: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: Help two groups of UW restoration students remove invasive plants this Saturday at Cotton Hill Park. Tools and snacks will be provided. Bring water, gloves, boots, and dress for the weather. To RSVP or for more information, contact karen@tinyisland.com.
  • Cost: Free.
  • Where/When: 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Jasper’s Dog Park.
  • Why Go: Grab your furry friend and join the Mayor of Kirkland, Kirkland City Council Members, and members of Kirkland Off-Leash Dog Group (KDOG) for the inaugural ribbon cutting this Saturday to celebrate the opening of Jasper’s Dog Park, Kirkland’s first fenced off-leash dog park.  
  • Cost: Free.
  • Where/When: 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 at Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell.
  • Why Go: Visit the Kaewyn Gallery on Friday, from 5-8 p.m. for a reception with Kirkland artist C. Sharp, who is opening an exhibit there. Sharp has traded in her impressionistic watercolor brush for a more deconstructive painting style in oils and encaustic. Critics love her big, bold, saturated oil panels that uniquely re-construct iconic images of the Northwest Landscape. Free appetizers and refreshments will be provided.
