Carillon Point Schedules Summer Movie Nights

Outdoor film series benefits Hopelink, the Eastside non-proft group that assists the homeless and others in need.

The Outdoor Movie Night Series at Carillon Point, a benefit for Hopelink and a popular family activity in Kirkland for several years, will kick off this year on July 9 with a showing of Dirty Dancing.

The movies are shown on a large screen set up at Carillon Point’s plaza, and the Saturday night events include a popcorn popper and often participation by the surrounding restaurants at the lakeside hotel/retail development and marina.

“The kid movies are the biggest draw,” said Megan Curfman, marketing coordinator for . “There’s plenty of space and no traffic, so families can lay out a blanket and just snuggle up. People also enjoy the convenience of the restaurants right there.”

A $5 donation is requested, with all proceeds going to Hopelink, the Eastside non-profit that provides assistance and services to the homeless and others in need.

“It’s not required, it’s just a request, but we’ve had a number of people who will hand over a $100 bill,” Curfman says. “We want to create a sense of community. This is for a real good cause. Hopelink really affects people in our own backyard.”

The plaza surface is concrete, so it is advisable to bring folding chairs, blankets, sleeping bags, pads or other soft things to sit or recline on.

Other movies in the series are Despicable Me on July 23; The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on Aug. 6 and How to Train Your Dragon on Aug. 20.

Start times vary because it must be dark enough outside to show the film, but they are just after dusk.
