Game Changer? Glu Mobile Game Company Lays Off Employees at Kirkland Office

The mobile game developer has laid off several employees at its office on Willows Road in Kirkland, home of Glu's Griptonite Games, according the the web site IGN.com.

 

The Kirkland office of game developer Glu Mobile, home of the company’s Griptonite Games, has laid off several employees is a shuffling of resources, reports the gaming news website IGN.com.

Griptonite Games produces the game “Shinobi” and has worked on iterations of “Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet.” It was acquired by San Francisco-based Glu Mobile in Augusts of 2011 and maintain a major office at 12441 Willows Road in Kirkland.

Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo de Masi told IGN the company will concentrate on fewer titles, and that the reduction represents 12 percent of Glu’s 564 employees. The layoffs are part of a shift from “raw studio team volume” to more “games-as-a-service” crew, he said, adding that the company expects to end the year with 582 employees.
