Hancock's Bakery Edges Guild Mortgage to Win March Can Madness

Hopelink's annual NCAA-themed drive brought in 23,535 pounds of food for those in need.

 

 of Redmond took the title for the third time in 's March Can Madness Food Drive, collecting 1,472 pounds of food and $525 in cash during the five-week competition. But just barely.

Hancock's defeated Kirkland's to win this year's competition. Guild Mortgage actually collected more food than Hancock's in the final round, but the contest uses a scoring system that divides the total pounds of food by the number of employees at each participating business, making Hancock's the winner with a score of 628-622 points.

Thirty-two businesses competed in this year's contest and collectively brought in 23,535 pounds of food—nearly two-and-a-half times last year's total of 9,809 pounds—and $3,030 in cash donations for the Redmond-based nonprofit.
