Kirkland Robot Maker CoroWare Offers Upgrades for Underground Vehicles

CoroWare's software upgrade will bring its earlier Explorer unmanned ground vehicles up to date and allow a new class of applications.

CoroWare, a Kirkland manufacturer of robotic equipment, has announced a new software upgrade offer for purchasers of its Explorer unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), hundreds of which have been sold worldwide.

Some of the upgrades will be offered free, and will bring earlier UGV models up to date, allowing a new class of applications based on the software platform ROS -- Robotic Operating System -- from the company Willow Garage.

The underground vehicles are used, for example, to inspect utility pipes, water mains or sewer lines, equipped with sensors, lights and cameras and other detection devices. In fact, the City of Kirkland uses robotic vehicles  to inspect pipes.

"CoroWare’s ROS upgrade program will give our customers a greater choice of ROS-based applications and software modules to run on their existing CoroBot platforms,” Andrew Zager, product marketing engineer at CoroWare, said in a press relase. "Because ROS is not limited to any robotics platform, we look forward to migrating any third party mobile robots and applications to ROS in the future.”

Details are available at the company website at http://robotics.coroware.com, by emailing sales@coroware.com, or calling 1-800-641-2676, option 1.
