Kirkland Patch's Parent Company AOL Acquires Huffington Post

Strategic acquisition seen as move to expand content network's global reach.

AOL Inc., parent company of Patch Media Corp., announced Monday its acquisition of the popular and influential news, analysis and lifestyle website Huffington Post

Founded in 2005, Huffington Post is one of the fastest-growing sites on the Internet, now counting nearly 25 million unique monthly visitors.

The transaction will create a global, national and hyper-local content group across online, mobile, tablet and video platforms. The combination of AOL's infrastructure and scale with The Huffington Post's approach to news and community-building marks a noteworthy moment in the evolution of digital journalism and online engagement.
