Microsoft to Launch Its Own News Service Following MSNBC.com Split

The breakup between Microsoft and NBC News was officially announced Sunday evening.

It's official: is selling its 50 percent share in MSNBC.com and plans to launch its own news service this fall.

According to an AP report, the split was announced late Sunday and calls for the website to move its corporate headquarters from Redmond to New York. MSNBC.com will be re-branded as NBCNews.com. Despite being based in New York, the AP story cites an NBC News executive as saying NBCNews.com will keep a "significant staff in the Seattle area."

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Microsoft also plans to launch its own Bellevue-based news service this fall, according to The Seattle Times. Bob Visse, general manager of MSN.com, told the AP the new venture will employ about 100 people.

Microsoft currently has about 180 Redmond employees working for MSNBC.com, according to The Seattle Times.

Hopelink's actions mandating Section 8 housing went too far. Sorry, you are off our list ofRead More organizations to support even though the support before was robust. City council listened to organized carpetbaggers and not the citizens they are sworn to represent. All that can be replaced need to go at the next election Hopelink needs to find folks to contribute who have not been done wrong by this organization.
