PCC Wins Readers' Choice Poll on Best Supermarket in Kirkland

Metropolitan Market, just across 68th in Houghton, finishes second.

, a co-op grocery specializing in certified organic produce and natural meat, made the No. 1 cut, earning 31 of the 103 votes cast. Close by in proximity and scoring was -- don’t you just love the historic Kirkland mural painted on its front? -- which earned 20 votes. was third with 17 votes, and the recently remodeled fourth with 10.

PCC’s Houghton location is one of nine local stores that was founded by 15 families in 1953 as the Puget Consumer Co-op. As its web site says, “Today, it's the largest consumer-owned natural food retail co-operative in the United States.”

Our friend Kim Henwood gave its Patch listing a five-star review, writing “I love PCC! I know where my food comes from and the monthly newsletter keeps us educated and in-the-know.”
