Strike Update: Waste Management Says It Will Collect Kirkland Garbage Today

The company has also announced it plans to hire permanent drivers to replace striking workers.

Kirkland residents who normally have their garbage collected by Waste Management on Wednesdays can expect trash pick-up today, the company announced in a news release Tuesday evening.

All regularly scheduled commercial business garbage routes will also be serviced on Wednesday, according to the news release. No recycling or yard waste will be collected.

Waste Management held a news conference on Tuesday during which company officials said they plan to begin hiring permanent recycle truck drivers to replace those on strike. As The Seattle Times reported, Waste Management is facing a $1.25-million-a-day fine from the City of Seattle if pick-up does not take place today.

Waste Management said in its press release that the following cities would receive service Wednesday for garbage only, but not recycle or yard waste: Algona, Auburn, Bothell, Federal Way, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mill Creek, Redmond, Renton and Seattle.

The company is advising customers to continue to check wmnorthwest.com for further updates.

Hopelink's actions mandating Section 8 housing went too far. Sorry, you are off our list ofRead More organizations to support even though the support before was robust. City council listened to organized carpetbaggers and not the citizens they are sworn to represent. All that can be replaced need to go at the next election Hopelink needs to find folks to contribute who have not been done wrong by this organization.
