Sunday Night Specials Stretch Your Weekend and Your Dining Dollars

Where to go to maximize your weekend and stretch your dollars.

EVERYBODY IS READY for dinner out on a Friday night. Saturday is even better with relaxation both before and after a night out. But, with work the next day, Sunday can be a hard sell.

Several local restaurants offer great deals to sweeten the Sunday dining out slot, hoping to entice a few more customers to take the night off. From wine deals to three course prefix menus, discounts abound if you know where to look.

Sunday nights mean half off a bottle of wine up to $100. That means you can order a first rate bottle for nearly a retail price -- and enjoy the gorgeous lake view while nibbling on chef Dylan Giordan’s tasty creations. Though you’ll tell yourself you don’t possibly have room for dessert, do not miss the lemon chevre cheesecake. The pistachio crust and pomegranate/kumquat topping finish a divine dessert.

The farm-to-table restaurant at the Heathman Hotel offers a “Food & Wine $29” on Sunday nights. Three course prefix menus are usually very limited, but at Trellis diners will find a large variety of options -- six to eight on any given course. Additionally, 29 different bottles of wines are available for half price. Nothing beats the soggy weather like a bowl of pillow-soft house-made gnocchi.

The Kirkland Purple recently began offering Sunday night wine dinners, featuring a different region each month. April’s theme is Washington Wines -- a sure hit as Kirklandites seem to have a special place in their hearts for local wines. Enjoy a three course meal for $50 with wine pairings, $30 without.

Sundays at Lucia mean happy hour all day long. Half price appetizers and drink specials should sweeten any evening, particularly one before a Monday. Don’t miss the caramelized pear and onion pizzetta or the bruschetta -- really, anything with that delicious balsamic dressing will do!

While you’re enjoying your all-day happy hour prices, try something new -- open mic at Two Twelve. Bring a guitar or just your voice and impress your neighbors with a cover or an original song. You’ll definitely want to try the cauliflower gratin laced with gorgonzola cheese.
