Chance of Snow Today, Especially Tonight Atop Kirkland Hills

Here are a few things you just might like to know today, Tuesday, Feb. 22.

  • The National Weather Service says there is a chance of light snow today in the higher areas of Kirkland and especially tonight as the snow level drops to 200 feet. Be careful on those hilly roads! See the City of Kirkland web pages for a map of roads often closed when slippery and which arterials are cleared first -- a smaller version is here on the right, too.
  • The sun peeks above the eastern horizon today at 7:03 a.m., clouds notwithstanding, and dips below the western skyline at 5:43 p.m.
  • As part of national Spay Day 2011, MEOW Cat Rescue in Houghton is inviting residents to bring in cats and dogs to be spayed or neutered. Help your pet prevent an unwanted litter. Discounted rates are $40 per cat and $80 per dog, males and females.
  • Trivia: Today is the actual birthday of America's first president, George Washington ... Today in 1897, President Grover Cleveland proclaimed more than two-thirds of the Olympic Peninsula as the Olympic Forest Reserve, much of which 41 years later became Olympic National Park ... In 1932, the George Washington Memorial Bridge was dedicated in Seattle, extending Aurora Avenue over over Lake Union.*
