Gizmo's Lived a Harsh Life And Needs a Loving Home

The rescuers of this abused cat have worked hard to heal his issues and he is ready for adoption.

Gizmo the cat’s is a sad story in search of a happy ending. He’s a tiny cat somewhere between 6 and 8 years old with a prominent overbite, rescued two years ago from a life of horrific physical abuse.

He was saved and lovingly cared for by a Seattle woman who ultimately could not deal with his behavioral issues, presumably caused by the previous abuse. shelter in Houghton took him on and discovered not only a multitude of scars under his sparse fur, but also a diagnosis for some of his woes.

Gizmo suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which weakens the connective tissues.  There is no cure, nor even an effective treatment. Gentle handling is essential for this cat.

Despite all that, Gizmo is holding it together and seems blissfully unaware of his condition. He settled into his new surroundings at the shelter quickly and became the darling of the staff.

He is now off the anti-anxiety medication that came with him, is affectionate and welcoming whenever offered attention. He loves playing with toys and his scratch post. He has had surgery to remove some of his criss-crossed teeth to make his mouth more comfortable.

Right now he is living happily in foster care with several other cats and a small dog. He needs a permanent home with adults or older teens who will handle him carefully and gently.
