Lights Out! Celebrate Earth Hour, 8:30-9:30 p.m.

  • The sun rises at 7 a.m. and sets at 7:30 p.m.
  • Kirkland joins more than 1,500 communities worldwide in officially supporting Earth Hour 2011, asking residents and businesses to “turn out and switch off” lights tonight from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour is a global climate awareness event led by the World Wildlife Fund (www.worldwildlife.org).   • The varsity baseball team opens its season against rival Redmond at Hartman Park in Redmond, 4 p.m.
  • Former American Idol contestant and soulful R&B singer Melinda Doolittle is at the Kirkland Performance Center, 8 p.m., $32-$35.
