Saturday is Armed Forces Day: Send Kirkland Patch Photos of Your Loved Ones in Service

We'll post them on the site throughout the weekend.

It was President Harry S. Truman who wanted to establish one holiday for citizens to honor our military members and thank them for their patriotic service in support of our country, according to theΒ Department of Defense.

On August 31, 1949, Armed Forces Day was created to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration resulted from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense.

Here at Patch we'd like to say thank you to all those men and women from Kirkland and the Eastside who serve in the Armed Forces. You can upload the pics yourself, or send them with the name(s) to greg.johnston@patch.com. We'll post photos all weekend.
