It’s Thursday, and you have no clue what to do for your weekend R&R. Never fear, Kirkland Patch is here. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars, restaurants and shops to explore.

  • Where/When: 6 p.m. Fri, Sept. 23 at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: The Woodmark is serving up “clams and hams” for Hopelink. Enjoy the traditional clam bake fare, along with Seafood stews, Mac and Jack battered Halibut, and “La Cajachina” (a whole roasted pig).  Enjoy live music by Renagade Stringband, scrumptious seafood, local beer and wine, and good company, all benefiting a great cause.
  • Cost: Adults: $25; Children: $25.

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sat, Sept 24 at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: Help celebrate 25 Years with Interlaken Trailblazers Volkssport Club this Saturday by exploring the sculptures and artwork of the Kirkland downtown and waterfront at this 10K or 6K sculpture walk. 
  • Cost: Free. You may register to walk between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and complete your walk by 3 p.m.

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sat, Sept. 24 at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: Will you and your family be ready in the event of a natural disaster? On Saturday, visit this fair to ensure you're prepared for the worst. There will be booths, demonstrations and exhibits about helping keep you safe when a disaster strikes.
  • Pricing: Admission is free.

 

  • Where/When: 7-9 p.m. Fri, Sept. 23 at in Woodinville.
  • Why Go: Start your weekend off with some smooth jazz and glass of wine this Friday night. Jazz on the Green will feature live music by MOJO, a local 17 piece modern jazz band. Depending on the weather, the event will either be in the cellar or outside, so if it's not raining bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and grab a spot on the lawn with your own picnic dinner, or enjoy the food services of G&G Dogs, a gourmet vendor who sells locally-produced gourmet hot dogs and sausages.
  • Cost: Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. You can apply $5 of your ticket fee toward a glass or bottle of wine.

 

  • Where/When: 12:30 p.m. Sat, Sept. 24 at in Woodinville.
  • Why Go: Learn the real story behind frequently misunderstood bamboo. Molbak’s nursery expert Jay Keye will dispel the common myths and fears surrounding bamboo and share valuable advice about when, where and how to plant and appreciate the many different varieties of bamboo offered here in the Northwest.
  • Cost: Free.

 

  • Where/When: 2 p.m. Sun, Sept. 25 at the .
  • Why Go: Are you an aspiring young author or artist, you may want to check out this author event at the Sammamish Library this Sunday. 16-year-old cartoonist, Seth Campos, author of two comic book collections, Welcome to Beeky Airlines and Real Bears Eat Takeout will share his story of becoming a self-taught cartoonist and published young author. He'll also share his experience with creating characters and demonstrate some of his cartooning techniques. 
  • Cost: Free. Books will be available for sale courtesy of Mubby Books for signing.

 

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Sat, Sept. 24 at in Redmond.
  • Why Go: The City of Redmond and the Cascade Land Conservancy are inviting everyone to come out to Farrel McWhirter Park for a work party this Saturday. From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will remove invasive species and plant native trees to help maintain a healthy forest and mitigate carbon pollution. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. All tools and materials will be provided. for Patch coverage of a previous work party at the park.
  • Cost: Free. All ages are welcome to participate, but those under 18 must bring a parent or a signed waiver.

 

  • When/Where: 7 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m on Saturday and Sunday at SecondStory Repertory in Redmond.
  • Why Go: It's the SecondStory Repertory's newest production from their Theater for Young Audiences Series, and it's good old-fashioned fun for the whole family! It's also the final weekend of the production, so if you haven't already seen the play, this weekend will be your last chance.
  • Cost: $10

 

  • Where/When: 7:30 p.m. Fri, Sept. 24 at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
  • Why Go: The Bellevue-based Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle will present the Rimsky-Korsakov Quartet from St. Petersburg, Russia for an intimate performance this Friday night at the Mercer Island Presbyterian church. The performance will include music by Russian masters Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.
  • Cost: Suggested Donation: $20 for adults, Seniors & Students $15.


  • Where/When: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday at the Puyallup Fair Grounds.
  • Why Go: It's the last weekend of the Puyallup Fair. So grab your friends and family and head to Puyallup for all the attractions you'd expect, plus a few extras. Activities and entertainment include animal shows, grange displays, home arts cooking contests and quilts, Hobby Hall, floral designs, and rides, including the new thrill ride, Vertigo. And don't forget about all that !
  • Pricing: Admission ranges from $9 to $11. Kids under 5 are free.

 

  • Where/When: 6:30 p.m. Fri, Sept. 23 at .
  • Why Go: Join Eastside artist Cheryll Leo-Gwin as she presents her newest series of paintings and prints during this informal discussion. Based on a century of history in China and America, this body of work focuses on issues and events surrounding women and families in both countries. The work will be installed within the Bel/Red corridor of Bellevue.

  • Where/When: 8-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the .
  • Why Go: It's the final weekend of the Renton Civic Theatre's production of  I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. The Renton Civic Theatre always puts on a great show and this production should be no different. Grab some friends or family and see it before it's gone.
  • Cost: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors.
