Want 4th of July Fireworks? Celebrate Kirkland Needs $25K for Annual Display

Kirkland's annual 4th of July display is not fully funded, and the organization that mounts it each year is looking for the community to step up.

Celebrate Kirkland, which has been putting on the 4th of July Marina Fireworks in Kirkland for 14 years, is asking residents and businesses to help it raise enough cash for this year's flash.

The popular waterfront display, held annually at Kirkland's Marina Park, doesn't come free, and fundraising has so far this year been more fizzle than sizzle, explained Celebrate Kirkland executive committee member Penny Sweet.

The group still needs to raise $25,000 to cover the cost of the 4th of July grand finale show--and July 4 is just 5 weeks away. At its June 4 meeting, the Kirkland City Council also will consider providing $7,000 in city funds toward the cost of the fireworks display.

Sweet said the group is looking for 25 businesses to donate $1,000 each, or 250 local residents to donate $100 each to help make sure our star spangled show goes on. Or, she said, 500 of Kirkland's 80,000 residents could donate $50 each.

The day-long celebration also includes a parade and a picnic in the park, underwritten already by local business and individual donors, but the fireworks display is not yet funded. The entire event costs about $60,000 to mount each year, and is a signature event for the city.

Donations can be made at The Grape Choice, the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, Banner Bank in Downtown Kirkland, or Hallmark Realty, or at the website www.celebratekirkland.org.
