What Do Art Walks and Barbecues Have in Common?

Rain, rain, go away! Kirkland's Art Walk is back this Friday.

Last week I talked about the trials and tribulations of working in the gallery world, with a few of the funny mishaps that I have experienced along the way. While it’s true that a life in art if often full of misadventures, there are also a number of benefits. The Kirkland Art Walk, happening this Friday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., is one such benefit.

It’s hard to find time to visit galleries during the work week. Long commutes, activities, friends, and family can make seeing art a chore rather than a learning experience, but adding in free wine and snacks sweetens the deal. Why not beat the rainy day blues and pop into the galleries around Kirkland’s downtown to start off your weekend?

Another one of those big benefits of gallery life is that exhibitions and artwork rotate quickly. Every month you will see something new in Kirkland. The best part is that with the summer months come outdoor experiences, not only of the barbeque variety (got to love the tailgating effect of summer!), but also of the art variety. So what do art walks and barbeques have in common? They are both too tasty to pass up and it goes without saying they force us to venture outdoors.

Artists will be lining the streets of downtown Kirkland for Art Walk the second Friday of each month, with musicians playing and conversation flowing.  Plus, there are venues all around Kirkland, like Zoka, the Kirkland Library, and the Kirkland Performance Center that have visual arts exhibitions.

Rebecca DeVere’s exhibition of new, large-scale paintings will be on view at the Kirkland Library starting Friday, just in time for Art Walk. With titles like Sea of Love and Our Street This May, DeVere’s oil on canvas works will transition us into early summer. Now the weather gods just need to follow suit.
