Tribune Misses the Mark #2
This is the second in a three part series on the TNT Editorial.
The Tacoma News Tribune published an editorial in support of the US Supreme Court’s decision in Harris v. Quinn on Sunday. I believe the Tribune's editorial misses the mark.
(3) “wring the fees out of them” This choice of word reveals the TNT attitude toward agency fees and perhaps unions in general. It would appear to be a decidedly negative attitude.

(4) “This is where the difference between public and private unions becomes crucial." Is it possible this critical point exists only in the minds of those looking for ways to damage the efficacy of unions?

(5) “Attempts to redirect government spending – to wages, benefits or anything else – are political by definition.” While there are “political” ramifications to increasing the wages and benefits of public workers, this phrasing suggests those are the only issues and that the public will gain nothing from those decisions. Again, in the case of I-1351, children will benefit.
Those who think the Supreme Court’s decision in Harris v. Quinn will open the doors to further limitations upon the use of agency fees apparently have no qualms about creating classifications of secondary citizens, or more likely no qualms about doing anything they can to damage the efficacy of unions in general. I believe the Tribune's editorial misses the mark.
