A Happy Ending for Ducati (and Harley too!)

Sometimes it seems that cats must have Guardian Angels directing us unwitting humans to do the right thing at just the right time.  There’s just no other explanation.  Such was the case for a very young Persian mix stray found in the garage of a kind family.  She was in severe distress, attempting to give birth but she was too small and had become too weak in the struggle.

The exhausted cat was taken to Brookfield Veterinary Hospital, where Dr. Rachel Robinson sprang into action.  The kitten in the birth canal could not be saved but maybe mama could.  There were still two unborn kittens inside who might just have a chance as well.  Dr. Rachel skillfully performed the Cesarean Section and she and the staff were able to save the mama cat’s life and one of her tiny kittens.

At first, mama was unsure what she was expected to do with this little creature nuzzling at her tummy, but within a day or so, she would pull him close whenever he rolled too far away from her.  Within a few days, this little boy kitten was round and fat, as kittens should be, a testament to mama’s wonderful care.

Ducati, as she became fondly known, settled into her foster home with her precious baby, Harley.  They both grew and blossomed with each passing day soaking up the love and care provided by their foster mom.  While in foster care, it was discovered that Ducati has a pellet deeply embedded in her right front leg…who would do such a thing?  The pellet isn’t causing any pain or problems, but if anything changes, it will be removed.

Update:  Ducati, now known as Maggie was adopted last month and is now living in the lap of luxury with another beautiful cat, Cassie.  They are doing just great!  Her new human writes, “They start playing at about 6am every morning - we call it ‘Thunder Paws.’  You hear them stampeding up and down the stairs and hallway and it sounds like a herd of elephants.  We're calling her Maggie - so we have Maggie and Cassie.  There's a lot of attitude in that little kitty!  We love her.”

Harley was adopted last weekend with another kitten and we suspect he is doing what kittens do best – romping, wrestling, purring and exploring.

Many thanks to everyone involved in this happy ending.  The kind person who found and brought Ducati to MEOW, Dr. Robinson and the staff at Brookfield Veterinary Hospital, foster mama Erin and the humans who’ve opened their heart and home to the furry ones.
