Pet of the Week: Slimmed Down Big Monty Gets a New Lease on Life!

Monty is now ready for his 'for real' forever home!

Monty has a new lease on life and is looking for his 'for real' forever home. The beautiful 9-year-old white and black boy came to MEOW Cat Rescue in Houghton several months ago after a phone call from a local vet.

A client brought Monty to the vet requesting that he be euthanized "because he was too fat." He was so overweight that he was no longer able to properly clean himself and was getting to be a bit messy around the house.  Unable to bear the thought of euthanizing this sweet cat who could be rehabilitated back to a normal life, the vet asked the owners to sign the cat over to them instead. Enter MEOW and a three-month "get fit and healthy plan."

Monty went into the care of one of MEOW's wonderful foster families and was put on a diet and reintroduced to play - in short, he was on the path to a better life right away.  He has shed a lot of weight, (about 14% of his body weight!), is keeping himself clean and is so ready to find a home that will truly be his forever.  Watching his playfulness return has been so rewarding.  In the beginning, Monty looked at the feather wand with disinterest, but then...with a sudden glimmer, he realized that it was something interesting, fun AND he was able to physically bat at it!  After three months, Monty loves to play and has a favorite sparkle ball, a rattle mouse and of course the feather wand!

Monty is an outgoing cat once he gets to know you.  He likes to talk, will crawl up on your lap, will let you hug him and he likes to play in brief bursts (favorites are feather wand and toys he can bat around the floor).  He had reportedly lived with a dog and another cat, but his foster home reports that he hasn't quite learned to be respectful of other cat's personal space, so might not do well in some multiple cat homes.

Aside from needing lots of love and play time, Monty will need a portioned quality food diet fed twice a day and can not go back to a life of being free fed.

Monty is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and has been tested for FeLV/FIV (Feline leukemia and feline aids).  He just needs you! See www.meowcatrescue.org or call 425-822-6369.
