Kirkland's 4th of July Parade

Sharing Independence Day from a fleeting view

Wednesday is a day everyone in the Kirkland community looks forward to -- our annual Kirkland 4th of July Parade.  It’s a day of remembrance and celebration that elicits different meanings for different people but we all share one common theme:  The gratitude for our Freedom.

Independence Day is a world-wide acknowledgement that our country has doffed the shackles of outside oppression and proclaimed freedom to all our citizens. And spent the next couple hundred years fine-tuning it. Now we of the United States of America are the most free society in the world.  So much so that many of our citizens take it for granted.

Our military people and families may have a different perspective on this entire matter.  They are, each and every one, heroes to me.  Be they combat veterans or support personnel that never leave Kansas they are each and every one our “forever” line of defense for our way of life here in the good ol’ USA.

A delightful citizen (who happens to be a friend and boss) took me to Starbucks this morning and while conversing I got to see the view - and I saw freedom abounding everywhere.  And I smiled.

May everyone everywhere get to have that experience sometime in their lives. And Starbucks too.

With regards and respect,
