Bellevue House Fire Spotted by 7-Year-Old Neighbor Girl

A family of six in the Tam O'Shanter neighborhood is displaced after a living room blaze that was first spotted by a neighborhood girl.

A 7-year-old girl spotted smoke coming from her neighbors' house and got her dad to call 9-1-1 Monday evening, according to the Bellevue Fire Department, which quickly put out the fire.

Around 5:20 p.m., the girl saw the smoke coming from her neighbors' home in the 1400 block of 176th Ave NE in the Tam O'Shanter neighborhood, according to Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Lt. Troy Donlin.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes to discover the living room partly in flames, he said.

The blaze was under control within eight minutes, he said, but the family of six who live in the home were displaced and are now staying with other family members. No one was injured in the blaze, he said.

An adult who lives at the home said she and her four children had been out since 3:15 p.m. running errands, Donlin said in a press release.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and damage is estimated at $100,000, he said.
