Bothelll Murder Investigation Focusing on Abandoned Bicycle

The Herald reports that Bothell police have filed for a search warrant to test the bicycle for trace evidence, and that the serial number of the bike matches one purchased by Susann Smith's estranged husband.

Bothell police have filed for a search warrant to test for trace evidence an abandoned bicycle they believe might have been used by whoever killed Susann Smith on Feb. 12, The Everett Herald is reporting.

The 37-year-old woman was bludgeoned and stabbed to death at her Bothell home on 240th Street SW, and police have identified her estranged husband as a person of interest in the case.

On March 1, the bicycle was reported left unattended for weeks at a Canyon Park office park, and then put in the Bothell Police Department evidence room. Police had previously questioned Smith’s husband, who denied owning a bicycle, but later found among his credit card record a purchase of a bike from a Seattle store.

The Herald report, based largely on a search warrant affidavit filed in Snohomish County Superior Court, said Bothell police in April checked the serial number of the abandoned bike, and it matched that of the one purchased by Smith’s husband.
