Driver Reported Car Trouble Before Vehicle Hit Redmond House, Started Fire

Redmond Police say the car hit a gas line, sparking the two-alarm blaze.

The driver of a 1997 Lexus sedan said she was having trouble with the car right before it crashed into a house in the 14800 block of NE 61st Way at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday and hit a gas line.

The driver, a 62-year-old Redmond woman, wasn't seriously hurt but was taken to Evergreen Hospital as a precautionary measure, according to a news release from the Redmond Police Department.

Redmond Police spokesman Jim Bove said the driver claimed the car was accelerating just prior to the collision but added that the case is still under investigation. More information should be available later this week, Bove said.

“We are still investigating whether or not speed may have been a factor,” he said.

The home, which was vacant at the time, was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, the news release stated. Police don’t believe alcohol was an issue in the crash, and the incident remains under investigation with police.
