Estranged Husband of Susann Smith Charged With First-Degree Murder

Alan Smith, 38, has been charged with murdering his estranged wife, Susann Smith, the Everett Herald reports.

Alan Smith was charged with first-degree murder July 19 in Snohomish County Superior Court. Deputy prosecutor Craig Matheson reportedly wrote in charging papers that Smith carefully planned the attack and made "extensive efforts" to research and then clean up forensic evidence.

Alan Smith reportedly admitted to his minister that he had committed the crime and the minister went to police after Smith did not, the Everett Herald report says.

Susann Smith, 37, was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death at her Bothell home on 240th Street SW, on Feb. 12.
