Dickerman said that the fire started in a kitchen in one of the units. She added that Kirkland Fire units were quickly on the scene and had the fire contained before it could spread to either of the neighboring buildings.

"The fire department was there so fast," Dickerman said.

Dickerman said that the affected building was nearly destroyed and will likely need complete renovation.

"It will be a substantial repair," Dickerman said.

Update, 12:30 p.m.

Kiro News is now reporting that Kirkland Fire units have extinguished the fire, which @IAFF2545, the Kirkland Firefighters Twitter feed, called a multi-unit fire.
