Update 2, 5:00 p.m.
Kirkland Patch has learned that the fire took place at an apartment complex operated by Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing (KITH) called Salisbury Court. The fire occured in one building which consists of four units; two other buildings were unharmed.
KITH says that all of the tenants in the affected building escaped without harm.
"Everybody was safe, which was such a blessing," said Jan Dickerman, Executive Director of KITH.
One tenant was already in the process of moving and has a place to stay. KITH has found temporary housing for two other families and is currently looking for housing for a fourth.
Dickerman said that the fire started in a kitchen in one of the units. She added that Kirkland Fire units were quickly on the scene and had the fire contained before it could spread to either of the neighboring buildings.
"The fire department was there so fast," Dickerman said.
Dickerman said that the affected building was nearly destroyed and will likely need complete renovation.
"It will be a substantial repair," Dickerman said.
