The restaurant's owner said the fire caused damage to an exterior wall and door, and smoke damage to a produce walk-in.

Original story:

Kirkland, Bellevue, and Redmond firefighters put out a small blaze at Pegasus Pizza & PastaΒ this morning, Redmond Firefighters reported.

Redmond Fire Battalion Chief Ralph Ashmore said the fire was fairly small and contained to a wall.

The restaurant, located at 12669 NE 85th, will open for deliveries this afternoon, and the dining area will reopen either tonight or tomorrow, owner Neil Kauffman said.

Kaufmann said the fire originated underground just outside the back door of the restaurant. Kauffman bought the business in April and recently had the Internet upgraded, which required some work beneath the cement, which may have caused the fire.

The damage is limited, but occurred on the exterior wall of one of the restaurant's cold food storage rooms, and all of the produce was ruined by smoke from the fire, Kauffman said. As of about 12:30 p.m., an employee was on his way to replace the produce, and Kauffman expected to do deliveries today. He said it won't be until later this afternoon before it's clear whether the restaurant can open tonight, but the bar area is closest to the damage, and may remain closed longer.

"The restaurant will definitely be open by tomorrow," Kauffman said.

Redmond and Bellevue firefighters assisted Kirkland on the call, which came in around 10:30 a.m. this morning.
