Gas Line Break Prompts Two-Hour Street Closure in Totem Lake Area

Kirkland police say surrounding streets were closed late Monday night and early Tuesday morning while the break was repaired at the busy intersection of 124th Street and 116th Avenue NE near I-405.

 

A construction crew broke a natural gas line in the west Totem Lake area of Kirkland late Monday night, prompting police to close surrounding streets while the break was repaired.

There were no injuries and no evacuations were necessary, said Kirkland Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Murray.

The break occurred at about 10:55 p.m. at a site near the busy intersection of NE 124th Street and 116th Ave NE, a block from Interstate 405, while the crew was digging a manhole.

A Puget Sound Energy crew arrived and repaired the break in about two hours, Murray said.
