Hearing for Suspect in Fatal Rose Hill Crash Put Off Until October

During a hearing Monday, Patrick Rexroat's attorney requested and was granted a continuance until Oct. 6.

A case-setting hearing for Patrick Rexroat, the Mountlake Terrace man charged with negligent homicide and reckless driving in a collision on Rose Hill July 24, was postponed Monday until Oct. 6.

Rexroat's attorney Tim Leary requested that the hearing be continued until October during a brief appearance by Rexroat Monday in King County Superior Court. The prosecution had no objection and Judge Ronald Kessler granted the request.

Prosecutors say Rexroat, 56, was drunk and claimed to be chasing another driver who had cut him off when he took the eastbound Northeast 85th Street exit from Interstate 405 at a high rate of speed and lost control of his Hyundai SUV. It smashed into the BMW driven by Kirkland's Steve Lacey, 43, a highly regarded software engineer for Google, killing him instantly.ย
